Fantastic resource for researching obscure NYC equipment
As you may have seen from the bulletin board I have a fascination with NYC Fire Trains and have spent hours researching them with little to show other then some pictures in the archive and a plan available from a Canadian(e)n suppliers. Using the rail magazine index that Seth recommended, I was able to find 5 issues of the Central Headlight that had a match for Fire Car in the Central Highlight . Within 45 minutes of opening the the flash drive, I had tracked down 4 new references which showed a 1983 model of “my” car asking for detail information, a picture of X1243 with white roof at Selkirk, an article in the 1950 Headlight on the CASO site, and an article in 1952 Collier's magazine. This is a great resource, I did not use the index feature but, Seth’s suggestion is a great work around and easy to work with. Also found some great articles as I was looking for my references, coal turbines in RS-11s and FAs!!!! Yes Alco was working on them, article include diagram plans and tech aspects.
