This map shows all main line tracks operated by the NYC, P&LE and IHB. For each line segment, it has a number of parallel lines corresponding to the number of main line tracks. The definition of "Main Line" is those tracks listed as single, double or more tracks in the employee timetables. It includes all lines operated on trackage rights. It has all foreign roads in light dashed lines.
There are area insets for New York City, Albany, Syracuse, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Toledo, Detroit, Cincinnati, St. Louis and Chicago. These maps show details of junctions of NYC lines with each other.
It was acquired when a new edition was published while working in the department of Economic Research in 1961. That office prepared applications to the ICC for branch line abandonment and sales and acquisitions of lines, so that level of detailed information was needed about the whole system.
Map is 24" X 36" and comes in a mailing tube.
